The Epic Battle in the Soul: Prudentius' Psychomachia (Intermediate-Advanced Latin Reading)

Tues., 2pm (U.S. Eastern Time)

Course Description: Prudentius wrote the greatest Christian epic and, at least according to some, invented the genre of allegory so popular for the rest of the Middle Ages. Read his epic and witness, in Latin, epic duels on the battlefield of the soul. Good Works attack Greed. Patience withstands the blows of Wrath. At under 1000 lines, the whole battle feels more like a mini-epic, taking up the space of about one book of Vergil.
