Intermediate-Advanced Conversational Latin: Ovid - Metamorphoses

Course Description: Are you a chatty poetry lover and a lover of Latin? Then come read Ovid’s masterpiece and chat about it with like-minded friends! This intermediate/advanced conversational course focuses on select passages of the Metamorphoses. By reading and talking about them in Latin, we will improve our mastery both of Latin verse and of Latin prose – the former by reading it aloud, the latter by writing/speaking it on our own. Students are also offered ludi domestici to perfect their Latin skills at home.


Level: This course is intended for Intermediate to Advanced Latin speakers.

Daniel Gallagher

Daniel Gallagher holds degrees from the University of Michigan (B.S. and M.A.), the Catholic University of America (M.A. in Philosophy), and the Pontifical Gregorian University (S.T.L.). From 1995 to 2000, he studied Latin under the expert instruction of Fr. Reginald Foster, O.C.D., whom he succeeded in the Office of Latin Letters at the Vatican Secretariat of State in 2007 - 2016. He is currently the Ralph and Jeanne Kanders Associate Professor of the Practice in Latin at Cornell University.
